| Updated: April 25, 2006 The central California cost is the best place in the world to see these, the largest animal on earth. From early summer through late November, up to 2,000 blue whales occur off the central California coast from the Channel Islands up at least to the coast off Bodega Bay. I have seen blue whales twice less than 50 yards the Coast Guard breakwater in Monterey harbor! I took all thes photos from whalewatching boats putting out of Monterey.
